Sources of Information
The information in the Guide is taken from questionnaires sent to candidates in contested races by the League of Women Voters. Each candidate's reply has been printed as submitted, except to use standard abbreviations and by editing from the end of the candidate's statement when the total reply exceeds the word limit.
This guide has been prepared by the Lehigh County and Northampton County League of Women Voters. Portions (state judges) have been prepared by the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania.
This material may not be altered or reprinted without the permission of the League. It may be printed out and taken into the polling booth.
This guide does not list all positions on the ballot.
Ballot Order
Candidates are listed in the order
in which they appear on the official ballot of each county. The party of the current Governor of Pennsylvania appears
first.
Write-in Voting
You may write in the name of a
candidate who is not on the ballot for any position on the
ballot. To do so, type in the name of your candidate
on the page that has the names of candidates who are on the official ballot for that
race. The prompts are easy to understand.
Who may vote
The
Primary Election is a "Party Primary" and only voters registered in a party may
vote for candidates in that party in the Primary Election. All registered voters
may vote for any question on the ballot. In November, all registered voters may
vote for candidates of any party and for any ballot questions.
Voting by Absentee Ballot
If you are unable to go to the polls in person, you may vote by absentee ballot. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10. The deadline for the ballot to be received by the Voter Registration Office is 5 p.m. on Friday, May 13. To apply by mail, each absentee voter must complete the form (available at government offices or on the County Voter Registration web sites and here) and mail it to your County Voter Registration Office. You will receive an absentee ballot for your polling place.
ALLOW AT LEAST TEN DAYS for all steps to be completed, unless you apply in person. If you are a newly registered voter, or if you have moved to a new address and polling place, you must send a photocopy of some form of identification with your application for an absentee ballot.
Unless you mail your completed absentee ballot to the voter registration office, you MUST bring it in person to the office.
